A man has been shot dead in Montreal after police say he tried to break into his house and was shot by a neighbour.
Police say they’re treating the shooting as a “domestic incident” involving a man who had been shot.
CBC News has learned the shooting occurred in the city’s eastern neighbourhood of La Loche about 7 p.m.
The man is described as Caucasian, in his 20s to early 30s, 5-foot-8 and 170 pounds with a medium build.
He was wearing a black jacket with a grey hoodie.
He has not been identified by police.
Police said there was no immediate word on any charges.
La Lochet is about 20 kilometres northeast of Montreal.
It’s a largely French-speaking area of the city that’s seen a rise in crime over the past few years.
La Locus is a neighbourhood of mostly single-family homes and a few bungalows, according to the 2016 census.
