Man with hatchet mashes out of car’s trunk to rescue 2,000 pigs

A man who mowed down two dogs with a hatchet has been arrested in an animal rescue operation in St. Paul, Minnesota, authorities said.

The man, a 39-year-old St. Anthony man, was arrested Monday after the operation in a car at a car dealership.

The rescue operation was led by the St. Charles County Animal Shelter and involved a crew of three people and two dogs, authorities say.

The operation began around 2:30 p.m. at a dealership in St Paul, according to police.

The Humane Society of St. Louis and St. Mary’s County are assisting with the rescue effort.

Authorities did not release details about the man’s relationship to the St, Charles County Humane Society.
